What’s in Bacon Up?

And what happened to the bacon?!

Although Bacon Up contains only two ingredients – bacon fat and BHA – we also list on our ingredient statement the list of ingredients that the bacon MAY have been cured in. Because our supplier prepares bacon with different cures for different bacon products, we list them ALL, just to be on the safe side.

Many people notice – and wonder why! – the Ingredient Statement says the bacon itself may have been cured with sea salt or brown sugar, for instance, and yet our FDA-approved Nutrition Facts panel indicates Bacon Up has Zero mg of Sodium and Zero g of Carbohydrates per serving. Note that only trace amounts of sodium, carbs, etc. cook out of the bacon and end up in the grease. In a one-tablespoon serving, it is less than the amount required to be reported.

INGREDIENTS

Rendered Bacon Fat (Bacon cured with water; may contain Salt, Sea Salt, Potassium Chloride, Sugar, Brown Sugar, Smoke Flavor Sodium Diacetate, Sodium Phosphates, Sodium Ascorbate, Dextrose, Sodium Nitrate), BHA added.

How should I use Bacon Up?

START WITH A SCOOP OF BACON UP EVERY TIME YOU FRY, COOK, OR BAKE for an extra layer of flavor and a crispier texture. You’ll love the difference it makes in your everyday cooking!

Fry/ Cook: Use a 1-to-1 exchange rate

Bake: The rule of thumb is to sub in Bacon Up for 1/2 the shortening, butter or oil called for.

BACON UP IS PERFECT FOR CAST-IRON COOKWARE AND NON-STICK GRIDDLES. Great to cook with, PLUS use it to season and re-season your cast iron and to seal your griddle after cleaning. Wondering about Bacon Up’s SMOKE POINT? Here’s a great article.

Refrigeration is optional for Bacon Up. Bacon Up will change from solid to slushy to liquid (and back again) as its temperature rises (and falls). That’s normal and does not reduce its quality. For long-term storage, we recommend keeping Bacon Up at temperatures below 80°F.

PREVENT CONTAMINATION. For best results and the longest possible shelf life, always use a clean utensil to scoop from the tub AND do not add used grease back into the container.
